Welcome to the 2nd National Pathways to Safety for First Nations Children Forum, 24–26 November on Kaurna Country in Adelaide. At a time when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children remain significantly over-represented in out-of-home care and progress towards self-determined solutions faces growing systemic challenges, this is a critical and timely conversation for everyone committed to better outcomes for children and families.
Delivered in partnership with the National Indigenous Network Initiative (NINI), the forum will bring together First Nations leaders, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, policymakers and practitioners to explore whole of family, whole of community solutions that prevent system contact, preserve families and keep children connected to culture, Country and community.
Over two days we will focus on actionable change. Bringing together evidence-based case studies that have reduced First Nations child removals and strengthened family and community capacity for self-determination.
We will hear from expert panels who are at the forefront of policy reform and prevention in practice and listen to lived experience expertise creating change within their spheres of influence.
We look forward to welcoming you in Tarntanya in November to strengthen our collective advocacy and advance a future where our children can grow up safe, connected and thriving.

National Indigenous Network Initiative (NINI)
NINI is a not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based on Kaurna Country in Adelaide, South Australia. We are dedicated to truth-telling and advancing self-determination through culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strengths-based therapeutic care that nurtures healing, strengthens social and emotional wellbeing, and supports mental health.
NINI acknowledges the ongoing trauma experienced by many First Nations people — the deep wounds of inter-generational trauma passed down through families and communities, and the pain caused by colonisation, dispossession, racism, and systemic injustice.
In our healing journey, we honour the strength and resilience of First Nations peoples by nurturing spaces where stories are shared, culture is celebrated, and connections to country, community, kinship, mind, body, brain, spirit and heart are restored — transforming pain into empowerment.
